Rodney Devenish
Our curriculum was set by Rodney Devenish. Rodney is Spiritual Director of the Dharma Fellowship of His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa. He is a Buddhist scholar, a highly accomplished meditation master and author of a triad of vital meditation manuals.
Rodney and his wife, Lisa Mirski Devenish, are founders of The Hermitage retreat centre on Denman Island, British Columbia. The Venerable Bardok Chusang Rinpoche consecrated and named The Hermitage, Kunzang Samten Yangtse (All-Good Pinnacle of Meditation). Since 2005, The Hermitage has wrapped thousands of seekers in its warm embrace, across a range of disciplines, traditions and practices.
Rodney was installed to teach over forty years ago by his root guru, the Venerable Namgyal Rinpoche (1931-2003). Rodney also studied closely with other such great meditation masters as Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche (1939-1987), Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche (1938-2010) and Kalu Rinpoche (1905-1989), who granted Rodney authority to teach Mahamudra in 1979.
Rodney currently serves as Director of Curriculum for the School of Natural Mind Meditation. It is the very inspiration of his Being upon which the school is built.
